Just out of jail, man arrested in pot theft

A man recently released from jail after he pleaded guilty to second-degree robbery was arrested Monday after he allegedly broke into a man’s home and stole two garbage bags of marijuana.

Cyrus L. Quarles, 23, was ordered held on $250,000 bond after a court appearance Tuesday. He was sentenced to 14 months in prison in March with credit given for 453 days served.

Quarles’ criminal history includes multiple convictions for theft.

Spokane police were called to the 1800 block of West Gardner on a report of a fight on Monday. Officers arrived to find Quarles punching the resident, according to court documents.

The resident told police that he opened his back door when someone knocked on it and Quarles and another man forced their way inside. They both punched and kicked the resident before stealing the marijuana, according to court documents. The victim also told police that Quarles held a knife to his throat while demanding more items from his van.

Quarles is facing charges of first-degree burglary and first-degree robbery. The second man was not located.
