Obituary: Krauss, Jacob John

Age 87

KRAUSS, Jacob John Jacob John Krauss was the first born to Jacob and Theodora on August 13, 1926, in Spokane, WA.

Jake grew up in Spokane with three brothers and two sisters.

After Libby Jr. High School, he moved to Ellensburg, WA., where he lived with his aunt and uncle and attended Ellensburg High School.

There a classmate told him of the good news of the Gospel and he gave his life to Jesus Christ.

After his junior year, realizing he would soon be drafted into the military, Jake enlisted in the Navy.

He was stationed in the South Pacific on the U.S.S.

LST 982.

He was honorably discharged in August 1947, on his 21st birthday.

On September 8, 1951, he married Gladys Irene Carlson and they had four children.

They were married 62 years until Gladys’ passing on September 28, 2013.

He worked as a plumber and pipe fitter for over 40 years.

He built the house they raised their family in and they lived there over 30 years.

Many enjoyed the pool (Jake’s Lake) and came for family get togethers and BBQ’s.

They moved into Riverview Retirement Community and lived in the Village from 1985 to 2007.

In 2007, Jake and Gladys moved to the Riverview Apartments.

He kept busy in the Men’s Club, gardening, workshop, helping at Fourth Memorial Church and Riverview Bible Camp.

He enjoyed taking many walks by the river.

He was a faithful husband, father, grandfather, friend and a humble, honest hard worker.

He was respected and loved by many.

After Gladys’ passing, life became more difficult with various health issues.

Jake longed to be with his “little Swede” again.

Jake passed away on May 20, 2014, after having sustained a fall.

Jake is survived by his children: Dan (Debbie) Krauss, Judy (Mark) Bell, Chuck (Loraine) Krauss.

Grandchildren: Misty (Chris) Cox, Tim (Marianne) Krauss, Eric (Allyson) Bell, BJ Bell (fiancee Kara Heatherly), Cory Moore (fiancee Krista Kine), Brandee (Derek) Maier, Tyann (Kory) Gausen and Kellen Krauss.

Fifteen great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Siblings: Fran (Bruce) Rogers, Bob (Carol) Krauss, Walter (Barbara) Krauss, Leonard Frerichs and Joe (Chris) Krauss.

Jake is preceded in death by his son, Doug Krauss, and his sister, Vera Frerichs.

Viewing will be Saturday May 31st from 10 a.m. to noon at Hennessey Smith Funeral Home followed by a graveside service for family only.

Memorial service will be held at Fourth Memorial Church on Sunday June 1st at 2 p.m.
