Obituary: Spring, Dorothy Mae (Smith)

Age 86

SPRING, Dorothy Mae (Smith) Cherished wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend.

Born March 14, 1928 in Wallace, Idaho to Edna and Ralph Smith; died October 21, 2014 in Spokane, WA.

Dorothy grew up in Wallace and at 16 moved to Spokane where she graduated from Lewis & Clark High School.

Shortly after she met her husband Jim and married in October of 1947.

They had three sons; Joe, Steve, and Jeff.

In 1961 the family moved from Spokane to the Missoula area and Bitterroot Valley until 1975 when they returned to Spokane.

In addition to being the ‘ideal’ mom, she worked in the accounting field most of her life.

She and Jim founded Equity Broker’s, a real estate and property management firm in Spokane, where she worked until she was 75 years old.

Dorothy was a Christian, a patriot, and a staunch conservative.

She fought a mighty battle with breast cancer and the family wishes to sincerely thank Dr. Lund of Rockwood Cancer Clinic and his caring staff who treated her like she was their own mom during the past 14 years of treatment.

Additionally, the staff at Hospice House North was incredible in guiding all of us through her last days.

We are eternally grateful for their care and compassion.

She is survived by her sons Joe and Jeff, her sister Bonnie Stewart, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Many others referred to her as ‘Grandma’ and ‘Mom’ as well.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 1995 and son, Steve, in 2012; her father, Ralph Smith of Prichard; mother, Edna Babin; sisters, Shirley Smith, Lucille (Smith) Colstad and Joan Frye; brother, Ralphie Smith, and stepfather, Dale Babin.

A service for her will be held on November 22nd, 11:00 AM at her home church, Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 1926 W. Chelan Ave., Spokane.
