Obituary: Sharp, Roy
Age 74
He was 74.
A potluck gathering for family and friends will be Saturday, November 22nd at 11:00 a.m. in the St. John Community Building.
James Roy Sharp was born July 16, 1940 near Winona to Douglas Glyn and Mary Elizabeth (Varner) Sharp.
The family moved to Idaho and Colorado before returning to the St. John area when Roy was a freshman in high school.
He liked to play football.
He and Joanne Parrish began dating when they were juniors in school.
They graduated from St. John in 1958 and were married February 27, 1959 in St. John.
He worked various jobs around the St. John area, mainly for ranchers.
They moved to Kennewick in 1966 and Roy drove cattle truck for the McGregor Company.
They returned to St. John in 1973 and Roy worked with Curt White on his farm.
They branched out into trucking their own grain and cattle and eventually Roy began his own “S & W Trucking” out of his home in St. John.
Roy loved working with his beloved quarter horses.
He especially enjoyed gathering cattle for area ranchers.
He was also a long time member of the St. John Saddle Club and would often help out at the St. John horse show.
Following the death of his father in 1982 Roy felt like a change was needed.
He went to work in the tire shop of the St. John Grange Supply for several years and eventually worked into the fuel delivery side of the business.
An industrial accident in 2000 forced his medical retirement.
Roy loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He will be missed by his wife of 55 years, Joanne, at their home; three children, Julie (Dwight) Lust of Endicott, Jodie Sharp of Seattle and Jim Sharp, Colfax; five grandchildren, Tasia, Jeff (Rachel), Carmen, Jordan and Matthew; two great-grandchildren, Carson and Harper; as well as his sister, Vera Parrish of St. John and his two brothers, Russell Sharp, St. John, and Ralph Sharp of Phoenix.
He was preceded in death by his sister Leona Martin and by his brother Ray Sharp as well as his parents.
The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the St. John EMT’s.
