Mariners claim pitcher off waivers from Miami

Associated Press

SEATTLE – The Seattle Mariners claimed left-hander Edgar Olmos off waivers from Miami on Thursday and added three others to their 40-man roster.

The M’s selected right-hander Mayckol Guaipe, catcher John Hicks and infielder Ketel Marte for their major league roster.

The Mariners also acquired right-hander Sam Gaviglio from St. Louis in exchange for minor league infielder Ty Kelly.

Olmos, 24, pitched at Double- and Triple-A this year. He appeared in five games for Miami in 2013.

Guaipe, 24, spent the 2014 season at Double-A Jackson and made 40 relief appearances.

Hicks, 25, split last season between Jackson and Triple-A Tacoma, hitting .290 in 81 games.

Marte, 21, was a Southern League All-Star after hitting .302 at Jackson before a late promotion to Tacoma.
