Obituary: Beckemeier, Fred
Age 89
In high school, dad was a stand-out pitcher and continued to love the game of baseball his entire life.
His senior year, he joined the Army Air Corps and, shortly after the war ended, he became part of the Occupational Forces in Japan.
He saw the aftermath of war ended by atomic weapons.
Dad was active and supportive in the Otis Orchards Community Church all of his life.
His parents helped to build the church in 1906.
Dad was part of the greatest generation; people knew right from wrong and how to tell the difference.
He worked hard so that he could play hard and he taught me how to enjoy life through recreation.
One of his greatest passions was bird hunting and watching his dogs hunt.
He also loved to fish on the lakes of North Idaho, and snowmobile in the wintertime.
In mid-life, he took on the challenge of building a cabin on the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene; a family project that was built stick-by-stick over several years, and was enjoyed by family and friends.
During his 70’s, and having a liking for cars, he built a classic hot rod that he and my mom enjoyed driving to the local car shows.
In his later years, following mom’s passing, he met a great lady named Liz.
She re-lit the fire in his heart and provided support and companionship for many years.
Fred was a great father who supported and guided his family by example.
Because of his strong faith in God, I will begin with a verse I found on a piece of paper in his Bible; “God will swallow up death forever and he will wipe the tears from all faces”.
He is survived by his son, Terry, daughter Sheri and friend Liz.
There are no services, per his request.
Those who knew him may salute him in their own way.
