Crash causes Coeur d’Alene gas leak

A suspected drunk driver crashed into the Safeway building in Coeur d’Alene, causing a gas leak and a brief evacuation of nearby homes. Coeur d’Alene police and firefighters are on the scene at 1035 N. 3rd St. The accident happened near the loading dock where a gas line enters the building. Avista crews arrived and turned off the gas line. All traffic routes have been reopened and the danger has passed. The driver is a male and has been arrested.
