Two men jailed in reported Riverfront Park robbery attempt

From staff reports
Two men were arrested in Riverfront Park after an alleged robbery attempt downtown late Sunday. Patrick E. Curry, 21, and Guadalupe Alvarez, 19, face potential robbery, assault and theft charges stemming from an incident reported at Post Street and Spokane Falls Boulevard just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday. A man walking home from work said he was attacked by the two men, who tried to pry his backpack from his shoulders after punching and kicking him repeatedly and demanded his cellphone. The alleged victim was bleeding from the mouth when officers arrived, according to court records. He said his tooth was chipped in the attack. Two girls who were with the men in the park told police Curry and Alvarez “jumped” the victim looking for money, according to court records. The man who was reportedly attacked identified Curry as his assailant and said Alvarez was involved. A police dog detained Curry near the Washington Street bridge and the victim’s backpack was found nearby. Both of the suspects recently spent time in jail on other charges, according to court records. They are scheduled to appear in court on the robbery, theft and assault charges this afternoon.
