Obituary: Buckley, Vernon David

Age 86

BUCKLEY, Vernon David Went to be with the Lord on August 19, 2014.

He was born May 10, 1928 to Inez Georgiana Baldwin Buckley and Charles Edward Buckley in Lexington, NE.

He lived in Nebraska until 1936, when his family fled the dust bowl.

After his mother passed in 1942, he moved to Colfax, WA to live with his sister, Vera, and brother-in-law, Norman Rogers.

He came to Spokane, WA in 1949 to study counseling at Whitworth, where he met his wife, Marie Miller.

They married in Tacoma, WA on March 10, 1950.

He later became the loving father of Steve, Paul and Carolyn.

In addition to working as a mental health counselor for many years in private practice in Spokane, his practice extended to Wellpinit on the Spokane Indian Reservation, where he made many friends.

He also worked as a volunteer police chaplain for the Spokane Police Department, beginning in the mid-1980s.

He was a member of Minnehaha Covenant Church in Spokane, WA.

He will be remembered for his laughter, farm stories and corny jokes as well as his prayers and loving kindness.

He leaves behind his wife, Marie; children: Steve and Donna Buckley of Highwood, MT and Carolyn and Milenko Pavlovic of Gary, IN; daughter-in-law Judy Buckley of Spokane Valley, WA; grandchildren: Luke and Jen Buckley of Butte, MT, Amy and Tim Meyer, Christie Buckley, Sarah and Tommy Hoaglan, all of Cheney, WA; Rachel and Adam Campbell III, Rebekah Pavlovic and Anamarie Pavlovic, of Gary, IN; great-grandchildren: Querida and Donny Simpson, Xavier Meyer and Zarah Meyer of Cheney, WA; Geoff Gaffaney of Spokane, WA; Taylor Buckley and Payton Buckley of Missoula, MT; Daniel Buckley of Butte, MT; Maren Campbell and Adam Campbell IV of Gary, IN.

He was preceded in death by siblings Vera Rogers, Elda Schluneger, Glen Buckley, Jean Wing and survived by Eunice Wilson of Chico, CA, and very special neighbors.

Please join us for the memorial service for Vernon at Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church at 312 W. Hawthorne Rd., Spokane, WA, 99218 on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 2 p.m.
