Obituary: Cirullo, Carl D.
Age 87
He was 87.
Carl was born in Drumheller, Alberta, May 24, 1927, to Pasquarosa (Rosa) Amicarella Cirullo and Vitantonio (Vito-Pete) Cirullo.
He was the youngest of six children (Tony, Frank, Carmella, Madeline, and Mary).
His marriage to Marjorie Roberts lasted over 50 years and blessed him with three children.
Carl had an extensive and successful hockey career which included playing with the 1948 49 and 1949 50 Spokane Flyers; winning the city’s first National Championships.
He also served more than two decades as a trainer for the Spokane Jets, Flyers, and Chiefs.
In 1970, the Jets became the first U.S. based team to win the Allan Cup.
They won again in 1972.
He was a member of the Inland Northwest Sports Hall Of Fame’s Scroll Of Honor.
He was also a founding member of the Spokane Oldtimers Hockey Association.
He served in the Army during WWII as a medic, and for many years owned his own floor covering business.
After retirement, Carl spent his time with friends at the Spokane Fraternal Order Of Eagles.
Carl is survived by his three children: Linda (Lin) DeWitt (Mike), Carleen Golden (Danny), and Gary Cirullo (Leslie); eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren who will miss him greatly.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff and caregivers at the Mann-Grandstaff Veteran’s Administration Hospice for their kind and loving care and support during Carl’s time there.
They would also like to say THANK YOU to his friends who kept him company during his extended stay.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 12, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home, 5100 West Wellesley, Spokane, WA.
