NASCAR notebook: No timetable for completion of Stewart investigation
A month now has passed since the tragic circumstances on a New York dirt track where Tony Stewart’s car clipped and killed Kevin Ward Jr.
And there is still no word from the Ontario County (N.Y.) Police Department on its ongoing investigation and whether Stewart will face any criminal charges.
A spokesperson for the police department told FOXSports.com Monday there is still no timetable for when the investigation will be complete. The Ontario County coroner ruled that the cause of death was blunt-force trauma.
Stewart returned to racing two weeks ago in Atlanta after missing three races, and most recently finished 15th in Richmond.
He has not addressed the media since making an emotional hand-written statement in Atlanta.
“There’s a lot of things that he’s gone through that I went through earlier in my life that we could sit and talk about, but this is something that none of us can,” said Greg Zipadelli, Stewart’s former crew chief and now competition director at Stewart-Haas Racing.
Johnson dehydrated
There was a scary scene in Richmond this past weekend when Jimmie Johnson – one of the fittest drivers on the circuit – collapsed after the race and had to be rushed to the infield care center.
“Just got dehydrated in the car,” he said after getting treatment. “Not exactly sure what led to it. We will have to dig in and see what happened. I started cramping when I got out of the race car. Then when I was cramping I was trying to stand up because I was fine when I sat down. Then I would stand up and I would get dizzy. When I would sit back down, I would start to cramp again. Just really dehydrated.”
“Ended up with five liters of IV in me. I was definitely dry. I will have to dig in and understand what happened in the car.”
