Obituary: Jones, Susan (Shrope)

Age 56

JONES, Susan (Shrope) March 28, 1958 - September 06, 2014 Sue passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 6, 2014 near Lake Chelan while celebrating an anniversary with her husband Kelly, her brother Steve and sister-in-law Linda.

Last Saturday, September 13, we were able to celebrate Sue’s life with a memorial service at Berean Bible Church in the Spokane Valley.

This was a very special time where many family members and friends we were able to remember and honor both Sue and our heavenly Father!

Sue was born on March 28, 1958 in Spokane, Washington to Glenn and Ila Shrope.

The youngest of four children, Sue grew up in the Spokane area eventually attending West Valley High School where she met her future husband, Kelly Jones.

Following high school, Sue attended and graduated from Western Washington University with a degree in Speech Pathology.

While concluding her studies, she married Kelly, becoming Mrs. Jones on September 6th, 1980.

Sue and Kelly made their home in the Spokane Valley and welcomed their first child Tyler in 1984.

Daughter Natalie arrived in 1987.

Sue’s family was a central part of who she was.

She loved being an active mother who was always full of encouragement and support.

There was never a doubt that Sue loved her children deeply, unconditionally, and prayed for them unceasingly.

Sue’s life was shaped by her faith in God and her love for her family.

She had a thirst for God’s Word and a strong personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ whom she loved to tell others about.

She was involved in Bible Study Fellowship as a learner and leader for over 9 years.

She was an active part of the youth ministry, MOPS, and the AWANA program at the Berean Bible Church.

Sue valued solid biblical teaching and grew in her faith and knowledge of the Lord under the ministries of several pastors including Ken Parker and Jim Gay.

Sue began working for the Central Valley School District in 1997, spending time at Broadway, Greenacres, and McDonald Elementary schools.

She had the opportunity to love and encourage hundreds of kids and families each year as well as build strong, lasting relationships and friendships with those she worked with.

Almost three years ago, Sue took on a new name…Nana.

She absolutely loved being a grandmother and spending time with her twin granddaughters Harper and Payton coloring, doing puzzles, and even teaching them to make their own pizza!

She had a passion for books and loved to read.

She especially enjoyed traveling and spending time with her best friend and husband Kelly.

Their 34 year marriage was a true love story.

Sue is survived by her husband Kelly, her parents Glenn and Ila, her children Tyler and Natalie Shemaria (Jim), her brothers Steve Shrope (Linda), Gerry Shrope (Cindy), sister Nancy Zimmerman (Dr. James), her granddaughters Harper, Payton and their mother Brittany Towles, Kelly’s siblings including Scott Jones (Joanie), Beth Edwards (Brian), as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other members of the Shrope and Jones families, and a multitude of friends whose lives she touched throughout her 56 years.

The family is comforted by the reality that Sue is with the Lord.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and our hope is that we will see her again as a result of putting our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Life Services of Spokane (http://www.lifeservices.org).
