Obituary: Whicker, Irene (Triplett)
Age 84
In 1936 the family moved to Enumclaw, WA where Bessie had extended family.
Irene always had fond memories of that time.
The family suffered the tragedy of Bessie dying in 1940.
Irene then lived with Triplett family members in the Midwest for about two years.
She was grateful for their kindness and spoke of her experiences living with Midwestern weather.
When Vernon remarried to Evangeline, Irene joined them and Evangeline’s daughter, Kay, in Spokane in 1943.
Arlis was born to the family in 1944.
Irene graduated from North Central High School in 1948.
She married Robert Whicker on July 31, 1948.
Bob and Irene were a team to be reckoned with - they provided a stable family home through thick and thin.
While working and raising a family she earned an AA degree in accounting from Spokane Falls Community College.
This knowledge was put to use in over 20 years of employment with the State of Washington, retiring in 1990 from the Division of Developmental Disabilities.
After retirement both Bob and Irene enjoyed working as volunteers at Holy Family Hospital and especially with the Spokane Police Department Senior Volunteer Program.
She also truly enjoyed the company of fellow Red Hats and friends in the Singles Club.
She also created knitted items for years for Project Warm Up.
Preceded in death by Robert, her parents and siblings.
Survived by sons Dan, Bill and Les, grandchildren Brooke and Justin, and extended family.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 11 AM in the Sunset Chapel on the grounds of Fairmount Memorial Park located at 5200 W. Wellesley.
