The Freeman Scotties have ascended to the top of the NWPrepsNow Power Rankings. Freeman (4-0) replaces Coeur d’Alene (3-1), which fell 13-10 to Highland of Pocatello on Friday, atop the rankings. “I know both Coeur d’Alene and Lake City lost to very tough teams, but Freeman just keeps beating everybody on their schedule,” Larry Weir, one of the voters, said. CdA dropped to second. “Six inches short of a win against a top team in the state is not enough to keep them from my No. 1 power ranking,” said Bill Ames, color commentator on the SWX television crew that called the CdA/Highland game. “Coeur d’Alene has shown it can play any type of game – whether it’s a high-scoring shootout or a defensive stalement,” SWX director Sam Adams said. “Their 2-minute drill needs some fine tuning but Friday’s 13-10 loss to Highland shows this team is championship caliber.” Gonzaga Prep (4-0) moved to third in the rankings. “Not a great year for the Greater Spokane League but they are clearly the top of the class,” Ames said of the Bullpups. Rounding out the rankings are Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (4-0), Lake City (3-1) and Shadle Park (3-1). Teams aren’t ranked in the poll based on their potential to beat other teams in the rankings. The top criteria is how far the voters believe a team can advance in the postseason and how teams stack up against teams from their respective classifications.
