Bobby Hurley takes over Sun Devils after 2-year stint at Buffalo

 (Associated Press)

Arizona State hired Bobby Hurley as its basketball coach, the school announced Thursday. The 43-year-old Hurley spent the past two years as the head coach at Buffalo, which he led to 23 wins and an NCAA tournament berth this past season. He replaces Herb Sendek, who was fired March 24 after nine seasons. Hurley has an extensive basketball background, playing for father Bob Hurley Sr. in Jersey City, New Jersey, and four years at Duke. A point guard, he led the Blue Devils to national championships in 1991 and 1992 and was an All-American in 1993. “Our purpose is to mold championship-caliber young men,” Hurley said in a statement. “We are here to set a new standard, to make regular trips to the NCAA tournament and regularly compete for conference and national titles.” – AP
