SERBOUSEK, Maynard O.

“Zeke” November 26, 1930 - April 11, 2015 Zeke was born in Onida South Dakota to Otto and Marion Serbousek as the youngest of three children.

He grew up in St. Helens Oregon and earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Oregon State University.

He continued his education at the University of Minnesota completing his Master’s Degree.

On June 10, 1956 he married the love of his life Lorraine Emmerich.

They moved to Hawaii where Zeke went on to inspire young engineering through his teaching at the University of Hawaii, followed by the University of California Berkley and finally completed his teaching career as a professor at Gonzaga University.

In 1965, Zeke transitioned to The U.S. Bureau of Mines as a Civil Engineer specializing in mine safety.

An avid outdoorsman Zeke spent his time away from work enjoying and sharing his passions of the outdoors which included hunting, fishing and camping with his family.

You could regularly find the Serbousek family skiing on the slopes of 49 Degrees North.

Gardening and Bee Keeping were also hobbies he enjoyed while sharing the bounty with friends.

Zeke found time to map out and support week long bike tours for friends and family; coach Little League baseball; for a number of years was the “Scout Master” for the Cub Scouts; and volunteered at the Humane Society photographing animals for the web page to help place them in good homes.

He was often accompanied by his grandsons to help hold the animals.

Zeke is preceded in death by an infant son David Serbousek, his sisters Arlene Gary and Thelma Clark.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine Serbousek; sons, Mark Serbousek (Terri); Jon Serbousek (Jill); and daughter Lori Serbousek; grandchildren: Nic Serbousek (Alyson); Eric Serbousek and Abby Serbousek; and great-grandson: Landon Serbousek.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 18th at 2 o’clock at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Spokane Humane Society, 6607 N. Havana, Spokane, WA 99217 in honor of Maynard Serbousek.

Zeke will be remembered as kind, gentle and dedicated family man who was big hearted and liked to stay active, sharing and teaching his love of the outdoors to others and share a cheer with all.
