Obituary: Prekeges, Gregory Peter

Age 81

PREKEGES, Gregory Peter Gregory Peter Prekeges passed away peacefully Saturday evening, April 18th, 2015 in Shoreline, WA.

Gregory, or Greg as he was known to many, was born in Spokane, WA, August 10, 1933, to Greek Immigrants Peter and Paraskevi Prekeges.

Greg grew up in Warden, Wa, and graduated from Warden high school in 1950.

He then attended the University of Washington, graduating in 1954 with an electrical engineering degree.

After graduation, he moved to Spokane where he began a long career with Washington Water Power (now Avista) in a variety of roles.

While working for Washington Water Power, he also obtained a Masters Degree in Business from Eastern Washington University.

He retired from WWP on January 1, 1994.

On May 7, 1979, Greg married Alice Besas at the Greek Orthodox church in Spokane.

They had many happy years together traveling extensively both before and after Greg’s retirement.

Greg was very active and a devout member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Spokane.

His faith was very important to him and he also served as president of the parish board for many years.

Greg was also an avid bowler, and he and Alice enjoyed many leagues in Spokane.

He also loved the arts, music, and regularly attended lectures and meetings always trying to learn and better himself at any age.

Greg was a father figure and that special uncle to 13 nieces and nephews, extended family, numerous great nieces and nephews, as well as Godparent to many.

He was there to guide and teach, support, attend sporting events, and other family occasions.

He and Alice always provided a welcoming home in Spokane for family visits.

You could always find relatives staying with them for fun weekends, where Greg could be found in front of the Bar-B-Que cooking up his famous flank steak.

Greg is survived by his wife Alice (Besas), brother Demitrios (Jim) Prekeges, and 13 nieces and nephews John P. Prekeges, Peter A. Prekeges (Jennifer), Irene Prekeges, Penny Prekeges Peppes (George), David Prekeges (Lora), Don Prekeges (Karen), Peter G. Prekeges (Molly), James Prekeges, Maria Prekeges, Paul Prekeges (Sandy), Steve Besas, Nancy Manolides, Gail Hall (Jack).

Viewing will take place from 5-7 pm, Thursday, April 23rd, followed by a Trisagion service at 7pm at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division, Spokane, WA.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 24th, 11am, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1703 N. Washington, Spokane, Washington, 99205.

Interment immediately following at Holy Trinity Lawn, Riverside Cemetary.

Mercy meal to follow at Holy Trinity Church.
