Obituary: Hopp, Robert “Bob”

HOPP, Robert “Bob” (Age 92) Passed away April 18, 2015 in Spokane, WA.

Born March 22, 1923 to Jacob (Jake) Hopp, Jr. and Mary Ilah Hopp in Odessa, WA.

He graduated in 1941 from Harrington High School and attended Washington State College in Pullman, WA, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 20th Air Force until 1946 when as a Staff Sergeant he was honorably discharged.

He married his high school sweetheart, Irene, in June 1944 and their daughter, Janice, was born in September 1945.

The family lived in Davenport, WA for many years where the couple owned and operated a paint and appliance store.

They moved to Spokane, WA in 1957 where they bought an Ironrite Ironer dealership, he managed a United Paint store and had a partnership in Spokane Radio Supply.

In 1961 the family moved to Clarkston, WA where Bob managed the Columbia Electric Company in Lewiston, Idaho until 1964 when he accepted a position as manager of the Citizens Savings and Loan in Pullman.

The couple purchased Conkling Park Resort on Lake Coeur d’Alene in 1967 and retired to Spokane in 1991.

Bob was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a Davenport City Councilman, served on the board of Kootenai Electric Co-Op for ten years and was president of the board for five years.

He was president and on the board of Worley Fire District, a member of the Scottish Rite masons, belonged to the Spokane Club, played tennis at the 2001 Summer National Senior Games (The Senior Olympics) in Louisiana, was a member of Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, and participated in the Honor Flight in 2013.

His interests included tennis, woodworking, writing and fishing.

Dear wife, Irene, preceded him in death in 2010.

He is survived by daughter, Janice Rozelle, and husband Mike; granddaughter, Tammie Ladd and husband Justin; grandson, Glenn Madden and wife Teresa; great-grandchildren, Wilson and Ian Ladd, Westin and Wyatt Madden; sister Carol Pegram; nephew Stan Roth, and wife Louise, who are all of Spokane.

A memorial service will be held Monday, May 4, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, 4102 S. Crestline St., Spokane, WA.

Inurnment to be held at Hillcrest Cemetery , Harrington, WA, Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 4:00 p.m.
