Diva Carey to make ‘Empire’ appearance
Mariah Carey is charting course for a new “Empire” with a guest appearance on the popular Fox television series, the show’s creator announced Wednesday.
“Empire” creator Lee Daniels announced the Grammy winner would appear on his show, while introducing Carey at a ceremony where she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“Watch her on ‘Empire’ you guys. She’s coming on ‘Empire,’ ” Daniels said to loud cheers from fans.
Neither Fox nor Carey elaborated on Daniels’ announcement, but the network is scheduled to present its plans for “Empire” and other upcoming shows at a Television Critics Association panel today.
Carey, 45, has appeared in the films “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” and “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire,” which earned Daniels two Academy Award nominations.
Cooking star Lee hospitalized
Food Network star Sandra Lee has been hospitalized for complications from a recent double mastectomy.
Lee was rushed to the hospital Tuesday night to deal with a buildup of fluids and is expected to be monitored for a couple of days.
The 48-year-old “Semi-Homemade Cooking” star had surgery in May after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis.
Her boyfriend, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, left a Billy Joel concert at Nassau Coliseum early to be with Lee when he learned of her hospitalization.
‘Daily Show’ set bound for Newseum
The set of “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” will be donated to the Newseum in Washington, D.C., after Jon Stewart’s final episode.
Newseum spokesman Jonathan Thompson said in a news release the museum will acquire the set, including the desk, globe and props, after Stewart hosts his final episode tonight.
The set will become part of the Newseum’s collection for future display.
Cathy Trost, senior vice president of exhibits and programs at the Newseum, said Stewart was a voice for a strong and free press.
Stewart has hosted the program on Comedy Central since 1999.
