Obituary: Askey, Stanley W.
Stan was born in Oxford, Nebraska to Mertie and Albert on January 30, 1925.
The family moved west following the Dust Bowl and settled in Spokane in 1940.
Stan joined the U.S. Navy in 1943, served in World War II and in the Naval Reserve during the Korean Conflict.
After marrying Janice he worked with her father, John Burchell and learned his lifelong craft and trade as a carpenter and contractor.
Later in his career he worked in sales for Valley Bestway.
Stan was the guy who could fix anything!
Stan enjoyed life!
He knew how to tell a good joke and save the punch line for just the right moment.
He loved boating on Lake Coeur d’Alene and taught many people how to waterski.
Stan was an avid fan of the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks.
He enjoyed all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was the Grandpa who knew how to get them all to laugh.
The Grandkids nicknamed him “Stanimal”.
Following retirement, Stan and Jan enjoyed traveling and wintered in Yuma, AZ.
There they played lots of golf and hosted many friends for get-togethers in their home.
He was a member of The Elks, Orchard Lodge #200, El Katif Shrine (Mobile Unit) and Past Commodore of the Spokane Yacht Club.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janice; children: Dave (Susan) of Lufkin, TX; Dayle (Peter Overvold), Portland, OR; Dee Jay, Spokane Valley; Dan (Leslie), Atlanta, GA.
He is predeceased by son, Doug.
He is survived by 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Staehly and Albert Askey and numerous nieces and nephews.
Interment and Committal at The Pines Mausoleum, 1402 N. Pines on Friday, September 18th at 1:00PM followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00PM at the Spokane Valley Elks Lodge, 2605 N. Robie.
