Obituary: Brown, Stella F.

BROWN, Stella F. (Age 92) Stella F. Brown was born November 16, 1922, in Westernport, MD to the late J.M.

Dayton and Pearl Ours (Biggs).

She graduated from Bruce High School, Westernport, MD, and Mountain State Business College, Parkersburg, W. VA. She then worked in the munitions industry at Kelly Springfield Tire Co. during World War II.

After the war she entered a 34-year-career as an Executive Secretary/Administrative Assistant to insurance executives, bank presidents, telephone company executives, and corporate lawyers.

Simultaneously, she raised two sons, Frederick D. and Richard K. Brown.

A military transfer moved her to Spokane, WA in 1947 with her husband, Capt.

Delmire B.

Brown.

Her husband’s career in banking moved her on to Bellevue, WA and Everett, WA.

Following her husband’s death in 1980, she moved to Greenwood, IN (Indianapolis) where she volunteered her skills to the Christian missionary agency, OMS International, Inc. During that time she traveled to Spain, Greece, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea.

In 1985 she returned to Spokane, WA to retire.

Retirement was invested in volunteer services of assorted kinds, mostly through Trinity Baptist Church of Spokane, where she maintained her membership for 54 years.

Throughout her life she maintained a focus on her family, her church, and her community, serving others quietly through hospitality, care taking, teaching, house mothering, and so on.

Stella was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Donald Ours, and her sisters, Gladys Hill and Louise Umstott.

She is survived by her two sons, and five grandchildren, Kenneth, Timothy, Jason, Aaron, and Joel Brown, and twelve great-grandchildren.

The Memorial Service will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Trinity Baptist Church, 6528 N. Monroe St. in Spokane.
