Liberty Lake Police Blotter: Dynamite in car near child prompts bomb squad
A potentially explosive situation was defused by the Spokane bomb squad after a modified stick of dynamite was found in a car next to a child in Liberty Lake.
A car was pulled over for a traffic stop the afternoon of Aug. 3 and the officer noticed the explosive next to the child, said Liberty Lake Police Chief Brian Asmus. The bomb squad was called and was able to deactivate the device, Asmus said.
The driver was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of driving with a suspended license and unlawful possession of fireworks. He was also wanted on an unrelated warrant for escape from community custody.

Aug. 5: Someone in the 1800 block of North Harvard Road reported someone had broken out the window of his vehicle.
Aug. 6: A resident in the 24000 block of East Maxwell Lane reported that his vehicles were prowled while parked in his garage. He reported $50 worth of items missing. A car dealership in the 21000 block of East George Gee Avenue reported that someone had broken out the back window of one of their vehicles with a piece of plywood.
Aug. 8: A woman’s stolen vehicle was located after an officer saw it being driven down the road. The car was pulled over but the driver ran away on foot and could not be found. A burglar was caught in the act in the 21000 block of East Meriweather Lane after someone reported seeing him trying to climb onto the roof using a decorative chain hanging from the rain gutter. He was booked into jail.
Aug. 9: A caller reported 10 people fighting in a parking lot in the 220000 block of East County Vista Lane. No one was found when officers arrived. A 17-year-old boy was arrested in the 23000 block of East Sinto Avenue for domestic violence assault after someone reported that he had pushed his mother into a wall.
Arrests: Police made one arrest for driving with a suspended license.
Citations: Officers handed out two citations for failure to show proof of liability insurance. Additional citations were given for operating violations (off road), failure to transfer ownership, expired vehicle registration and parking in a marked fire zone.
