Evacuation notices issued for Stickpin Fire

Residents should go or be prepared to leave quickly

The Ferry County Sheriff’s Office has issued level 2 evacuation notices to rural residents living near the fast-burning Stickpin Fire, which has spread to about 12,500 acres. A level 2 notice means that residents should either voluntarily leave their homes or be ready to leave at a moment’s notice. The evacuation area covers Upper Aeneas Creek Road, Upper Long Alec Creek Road, Otis Road and North Fork St. Peters Creek Road. The Red Cross has set up a shelter at Republic High School, which opens at 11:30 this morning, said Colin Downey, communications director for the Red Cross. The high school is at 30306 Highway 20 East in Republic. The sheriff’s office also is working on setting up a place for residents’ animals. The fire started Tuesday in the Kettle Crest area of the Colville National Forest, south of Profanity Peak. Lightning is believed to be the cause.
