Obituary: Byrne, Connie F.
Age 81
Born November 18, 1933 in Spokane, Washing-ton to Charles and Irene (Spain) Proell, she grew up in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Connie graduated from Holy Names College in 1956 with a degree in education.
Her 30 years as an elementary school teacher took her from Moses Lake, WA to The Bronx (NYC) and back to Spokane where she excelled as a special reading teacher at numerous schools in District 81.
Connie was a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima parish where she was a choir member for many years and at one time taught religious education.
She also served as a board member of Healing the Children NW and had shared of her time and talents volunteering with the Spokane AIDS Network.
Connie loved to travel and enjoyed many adventures throughout the United States, Europe and Canada.
Her fondest trips, however, were those to visit her husband’s family in his homeland of Ireland.
Connie will be especially remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
She is survived by John, her husband of 50 years; daughter Nona (Derek) Brown; grandchildren Nicholas and Ryan Black, Caitlin (Ray) White, Madison and Braeden Brown; great-grandchildren Ellie, Caileigh and Silas White and numerous cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 25 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 3327 S. Perry in Spokane.
Inurnment will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday at Holy Cross Cemetery.
