Fraud reported
The Liberty Lake Police Department has received several reports of fraud recently.
A resident in the 21000 block of East Meriwether Lane reported to police on Aug. 17 that he had just learned that someone had used his information to open a Sprint account. He discovered the fraud when a collection agency called him about the unpaid bill.
A man called police to report wire fraud on Aug. 19. He said someone gained remote access to his computer and demanded $200 to fix a computer virus. He did so, but said his account was charged for $2,000.
Other calls from Aug. 17-24
Aug. 17: A license plate was reported stolen in the 19000 block of Cataldo Avenue. Two bikes were reported stolen from a garage in the 1400 block of North Winchester Lane.
Aug. 19: A backpack and purse were reported stolen from an unlocked car in the 800 block of North Swing. The woman said one of her cards had been fraudulently charged $307.
Aug. 22: Six flat screen televisions were reported stolen from RVs at a dealership in the 19000 block of East Cataldo Avenue. Police found that the perimeter fence had been cut. A suspicious vehicle was reported in the same area late that night.
Arrests: Police made five arrests for driving with a suspended license, one for driving under the influence and one for domestic violence assault.
Citations: Officers handed out two citations for expired vehicle registration. Additional citations were given for allowing an unauthorized person to drive, failure to stop at a red light, failure to stop/yield at an intersection, speeding and second-degree negligent driving.
