Obituary: Battles, Constance Eleanore “Connie”
Born on her grandfather’s farm in McCook County, South Dakota, Connie was the daughter of O.W.
Phillip and Eva E. Anderson.
Her father’s work for the Milwaukee Railroad meant the family moved frequently.
Connie attended grade schools in Montana, North and South Dakota, Idaho, and Washington before her family settled in Dishman, WA in 1944.
Here she attended Dishman Grade School, and in 1949, graduated from West Valley High School.
She worked for area banks as bookkeeper, teller, secretary, keypunch operator, and was Manager of Escrow Operations for U.S. Bank of Washington at the time of her retirement in 1991.
Connie married Robert Battles at Hope Lutheran Church in Veradale on February 19, 1955, and together they raised three children.
Connie’s family and friends always held the highest priority in her life.
She was an active member at Hope Lutheran Church.
She served as church Treasurer, Secretary, Sunday school teacher, and on several church boards during her 66 years of membership.
Connie is survived by daughters, Nancy (Dennis) Dunham, Eva (John) Weisenburger, son Brian Battles; grandchildren, Sheila (John) Savoie, Chad (Rochelle) Dunham, Lori (Richard) Stokes, Lisa (Scott) Jones, Catherine Weisenburger (finance Nick Linton), Mary Weisenburger; great-grandchildren Trysten Savoie, Madison Savoie, Hannah Savoie, Brayden Savoie, Christopher Dunham, Minna Dunham, Dennis Stokes, Harrison Stokes, Norah Stokes, and Kaitlyn Jones.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Robert, her parents, and her brother and sister-in-law Phillip and Evelyn Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane in Connie’s memory.
Thanks to the many friends and family who came to see her before she left us to join her beloved husband.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 5th at 10am at St. Joseph Cemetery, 17825 E. Trent Ave, Spokane Valley.
A memorial service will follow at 11am at Hope Lutheran Church, 17909 E. Broadway Ave., Spokane Valley, WA.
