Obituary: Ely, James L.
Age 65
Jim was born to Dorothy and Jim Bridges on April 9, 1950 in Puyallup.
Jim and his infant sister, Joyce were adopted by their grandparents, Jess and Lucy Ely when their mother, Dorothy passed away when Jim was five years old.
Jim was a proud veteran, having served in the US Army during the Vietnam War.
Despite an ongoing battle with cancer that continued to disrupt his life for nearly two decades and robbed him of his voice five years ago, Jim had a real love of life and for his two little dog companions.
Jim loved his Hawthorne home and built strong bonds and friendships there.
He communicated without words and somehow his sense of humor and playful “Ely” personality always reflected through his bright blue eyes, smiles, shrugs and gestures.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vicki, who lost her own struggle with cancer; his mother, grandparents, his uncles Don R. Ely and Elmer Ely.
He is survived by daughter, Amber and three grandchildren in Florida; sister, Joyce Mayfield in Oregon and extended family and friends in the Spokane area.
Flag Ceremony, Celebration of Life, Fellowship and Faith was held at the Hawthorne, NV VFW Post 2313 on Saturday, August 29, 2015.
