City library branch to open at Lake City High School

From staff reports

The Coeur d’Alene School Board has endorsed opening a branch of the city library inside the Lake City High School library.

The branch would operate after school hours and would serve a growing part of Coeur d’Alene, library Director Bette Ammon said.

The school board approved the plan Monday night. The library board and the Coeur d’Alene City Council previously voted for the plan.

The branch is expected to open within the next two months. It’s modeled on similar branch libraries in public schools in Missoula.

A library reference clerk will courier books, videos and other materials between the main library downtown and the new branch on the city’s northwest side, at Ramsey Road and Hanley Avenue.

Initially the branch will be open Monday through Thursday in the late afternoon and early evening. In the summer it will be open afternoons with the potential for story times and other programs to promote summer reading, Ammon said.
