49 Degrees North to reopen on Friday
Despite the rain and wind this week, 49 Degrees North held on to a good bit of the snowpack it accumulated earlier this week during a significant winter storm that lasted for two days and left them with 14 inches of new snow on the summit and 12 inches of new snow at the base area.
The snowpack held up well, though, and they still have good coverage over most of the mountain, although it is quite a bit thinner now at the base area.
Officials at 49 Degrees covered much of their traditionally thin spots with man-made snow earlier this month, so they think they are in good shape to begin operations when they reopen on Friday.
With snow expected for elevation this weekend – 3-5 inches of new snow by Friday morning – plus cold temperatures into next week, they expect the snowpack is going to set up fairly firm, further solidifying the base.
Their plan is to open the Central, East, and West basins and run chairlifts 1, 3, 4 and 5. Full services should be available, including lessons, rental and repair, retail, and food/beverage.
Stop by the bottom of the sunrise quad and check out the latest progress on their new deck and Yurts.
