Spokane asks water and trash customers for help to improve bill distribution

From staff reports

The city of Spokane wants utility customers to update basic information provided to the city to improve how it interacts with them.

The city wants all customers to provide the name of the person who owns a property, the address of that property, a mailing address if it’s different, a phone number and an email account.

With the changes, utility bills will no longer be addressed to “occupant.”

According to the city, nothing else related to utility bills will change, and it will continue to accept payments from owners, property management companies or tenants. The property owner remains responsible for the bill, but it can be sent to a tenant.

The utility bills include charges for water, wastewater, stormwater and collection of curbside garbage and recycling. More than 75,000 residential and business customers use the city’s utilities, both inside and outside the city limits.
