Boys basketball: Colton Magers’ late basket sends to W-C to win
Colton Magers’ jumper with 7 seconds left lifted Wilbur-Creston to a 60-58 win over Colfax in a District 7 2B game Tuesday night in Reardan.
The win gave the Wildcats (16-7) a berth to the regional tournament. They’ll play St. George’s Thursday in Reardan to determine the third and fourth seeds.
Colfax (19-4) built a seven-point lead after the first quarter, but Wilbur-Creston responded with a 20-11 second-quarter run.
The Wildcats’ Nick Densley tossed in a game-high 18 points and Magers finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bulldogs’ Danny Robinson scored 15 points, Kasey Johnson had 13 and Kenton Lyman added 10. Colfax will play Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Thursday in Reardan to determine the fifth and final seed to regionals.
St. George’s 48, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 45: Cody Peplinski scored 20 points and hit a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left to help the Dragons (13-10) secure a regional tournament berth with a win over the Broncos (13-10) in Reardan. Jacob Saetre scored 15 points and Cort Ruzicka added 12 for St. George’s, which got back into the game with a 15-5 third-quarter run.
Intermountain
Kellogg 46, Bonners Ferry 43: Tucker Gust scored 14 points and Gus Colburn and Heath Waechter added 12 apiece as the Wildcats (16-3, 5-0) edged the host Badgers. Bonners Ferry’s Caleb Blackmore tallied a game-high 15 points.
Northeast A
Lakeside 65, Colville 50: Ryan Quigley made 12 of 14 free throws and scored 20 points and Cameron Gay added 19 as the Eagles (17-3, 12-2) secured the outright league title with a win over the host Indians (2-17, 2-12). Colville’s Chase Sandaine and Sam Artzis combined for 23 points.
Medical Lake 50, Riverside 39: Cole Soliday had 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals and the Cardinals (15-5, 11-3) topped the visiting Rams (16-4, 11-3). Tellas Johnson added 13 points and 10 rebounds for Medical Lake. Riverside’s Andrew Kramer led all scorers with 22 points. The win moved Medical Lake into a tie with Riverside for second place in the league standings. The teams will play tiebreaker Thursday in Freeman to determine seeding to the district tournament.
Newport 67, Chewelah 48: Ty McDaniel led a balanced offensive attack with 12 points and the Grizzlies (11-9, 6-8) used a 25-11 third-quarter run to get past the visiting Cougars (1-19, 0-14). Kyler Zorica added 11 points for Newport and John Lyon chipped in 10. Chewelah’s Chase Frizzell tallied a game-high 13 points.
Freeman 49, Deer Park 26: Jake Paukert had 16 points, three assists, three rebounds and two steals and the Scotties (11-9, 9-5) routed the visiting Stags (7-13, 5-9). Ryan Maine added 14 points for Freeman, which built a 26-12 halftime lead. Deer Park’s Nate Guske tallied a team-high nine points.
Nonleague
Sandpoint 52, Lake City 49 (OT): Davin Norris drilled a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Bulldogs (7-11) a win over the visiting Timberwolves (9-10). Norris finished with 23 points, including five 3s. Broc Coppess added four 3s and 13 points for Sandpoint. Lake City’s Joe Pasquale tallied a team-high 15 points.
