Obituary: Chapman, Clark L.

Age 65

CHAPMAN, Clark L. (Age 65) Clark “Cork” “Chopper” Chapman, was born in Spokane on November 1, 1949.

He passed away at a local hospital on February 11, 2015.

He left behind his wife and best friend, Cindy (Cumpton); three brothers, Myrl (Michal), Paul (Diana), Jeffrey (Rome); sister-in-law Cathy (Bart); and his niece and special friend, JennyGirl; along with many other nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrle and Bernice and nephew Brett.

Cork attended Shadle Park High School where he finished his senior year with a winning record as a varsity wrestler.

He graduated in 1968.

Chopper was the most loyal Utah Jazz fan on the planet.

For several years he served as the President of the UTAH JAZZ OPERATIONS-SPOKANE with offices at 1226 N. Hamilton Street in Spokane.

Cork realized a lifelong dream when he was able to attend the NBA Finals at the Delta Center in 1997.

John Stockton was his hero and he cherished his relationship with the whole Stockton family.

Chopper had countless friends at Jack & Dan’s and remained a life long ZAGS & JAZZ fan.

Cork created his own personae, he claimed to have boxed professionally under the name “CHOPPER GALINDEZ out of Oaxaca, Mexico.

23 wins, 2 losses, no ties.

Never been knocked out.”

His friends at Jack & Dan’s just called him “Chopper” after that.

Cork had several jobs before working for United Air Lines, where he retired in 2005, after 30 years.

He was able to travel often with his extended family and enjoyed cruises and trips with his friends at United.

In 2007 he reconnected with Cindy whom he had dated 30 years previously.

They spent the last eight years together.

After his mother died, he purchased his boyhood home where he and Cindy lived during his final years - he was happy to be back home where life was all about basketball “GO JAZZ” and spending summer evenings watching the Mariners with Cindy.

“Chopper Galindez down for the count in the 6th round….way, way too early….” A Memorial Service will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Friday, February 20 at 1:00 pm.
