Weekend weather: Fresh powder in forecast
After a nine-day dry spell, some parts of the region could see changing conditions through the weekend with some area mountains likely to see measureable new snow. How much snow falls depends on the place.
Schweitzer ski area could see as much as a few inches of snow.
The better chance of snow will be found to the east above the Silver Valley where accumulations of several inches are possible.
The Central Panhandle mountains to the south should see the highest amounts with 4-10 inches of snow possible.
Two weak disturbances are expected to migrate down the eastern flank of the stubborn high pressure along the West Coast.
Spokane won’t see much rain tonight, maybe a tenth of an inch. But Coeur d’Alene could see that one-tenth inch followed by more rain or snow showers through Saturday. A mix of sun and clouds is expected through the weekend.
The weak storms are going to usher in cooler temperatures to all locations.
Coeur d’Alene and Spokane will go from the upper 40s today to the lower 40s on Saturday and Sunday as full sunshine returns by Sunday. Lows will dip back to the 20s.
Mount Spokane should see highs drop to the lower 30s by the weekend with lows in the lower 20s. To the north, even colder temperatures are expected with highs in the upper 20s at Schweitzer Mountain to the teens at night.
Drier conditions arrive on Saturday night along with the colder air.
Sunny skies arrive early next week as highs rebound to the middle to upper 40s in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene.
