Obituary: Demmerly, Douglas Brian

Age 61

DEMMERLY, Douglas Brian Douglas was born on September 14, 1953 in MCAS Cherry Point, Havelock NC.

He passed away at home on Friday the 13th as a result of his diabetes and heart condition.

Doug was a type 1 brittle diabetic for 57 years.

Doug graduated high school in 1971 from East High School in Anchorage, AK and attended college in 1993 at the University of Montana (Missoula, MT) for his B.A.

in Communications Studies.

Doug worked for 12 years as a civil draftsman for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation in Green Bay, WI.

He married Barbara E. in Anchorage, AK on June 15, 1974 (divorced 2012).

He worked in the retail industry while attending college and raising his family, and continued in various retail environments after moving to Spokane in 1994.

He retired on disability in 2000, due to complications from diabetes and heart disease.

Doug is survived by Barbara E. Demmerly; sons: Brian M. Demmerly (Mellisa)-Spokane, WA and Jason M. Demmerly (Amanda)-Kimberly, ID; daughters: Gina M. Demmerly-Seattle, WA and Arianna L. Demmerly-Fairbanks, AK; brothers: Dale Demmerly-Warroad, MN, Dave Demmerly (Deirdre)-Ames, IA and Dion Demmerly-Red Granite, WI; sister, Dawn Dykstra (Doug)-Helena, MT; five grandsons and five granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Wade Demmerly and Judith Josephine Stocco.

Memorial Service to be held at Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene located at 15515 E 20th Ave. Spokane Valley, WA 99037.

Reception on location immediately following.

Donations in Doug’s memory to the American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association are suggested in lieu of flowers.
