Obituary: Hastings, Glen Leo

Age 90

HASTINGS, Glen Leo Passed away from complications due to cancer on November 28, 2014 at the Orchard Crest Retirement Center in Spokane Valley, WA.

A life-long resident of Spokane, Glen was born on February 15, 1924 to William and Ethel (Bedard).

Hastings, the youngest of three children.

He graduated from West Valley High School in 1942.

During World War II he worked for over two years as an aircraft electrician at Fairchild Air Force Base.

He met and married Barbara McNeese in 1945 and had 58 years together.

During their years in Spokane Valley the Hastings lived in the Edgecliff area, West Valley (Millwood), Liberty Lake and on East Nixon.

Hastings built or remodeled several of these homes.

The couple was active in their support of scouting for their children, Allan and JoAnn.

Hastings began a 42 year career with Johnson’s Cabinet Shop (Johnson’s Lumber and Millwork) in 1945.

He was the owner of the company from 1965-1985.

A fine craftsman, his firm was well known for custom cabinetry work provided for commercial clients and institutions throughout the Northwest.

The company specialized in bank counters, show cases and custom millwork.

They also built custom desks and furniture for colleges and other clients.

Hastings was particularly proud that his company did custom woodworking for the wood products pavilion at the Spokane Expo ‘74 site.

During his retirement years Hastings enjoyed playing golf with his friends at The Meadow Wood and Liberty Lake courses, was an avid fan and donor to the Washington State Cougars Football program.

He traveled to Alaska and California with his wife, visited New England, Florida and the North West with his son and family and later to Hawaii, Central America, the Caribbean and Europe on cruises with his late sister, Dorothy Kincaid and his daughter and son-in-law.

On the European cruise the group traced the ancestry of the Hastings family in the Lake District of England.

During the last two years of his life he was a resident of the Orchard Crest Retirement Community in Spokane Valley.

He made many friends in this setting and participated on the center’s Wii Bowling Team.

He is survived by his son, Allan Hastings of Palm City, Florida, his daughter, JoAnn Shore of Wasilla, Alaska, his grandson, David Hastings of Stuart, FL, granddaughter Lesley Hastings of Austin, TX and his older brother Alan of Spokane Valley, WA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara McNeese Hastings in 2001 and his sister, Dorothy Virginia Kincaid of Deer Park, WA in 2009.
