Obituary: Ungaro, Palma Emma

UNGARO, Palma Emma Emma peacefully went to be with the Lord on January 2nd, 2015 after an amazing 102 years.

Palma Emma (Pugliese) Ungaro of Spokane, Washington was born on March 26, 1912 in Olsen, British Columbia, Canada.

She was the second of eight children born to Phillip and Teresa Pugliese.

Emma married Nino Ungaro in 1930, who passed away in 1942.

They had four children who blessed her with 12 grandchildren and many great, and great-great-grandchildren - who were her pride and joy.

Family was most important to Emma and she was always in the center of family gatherings which mainly revolved around her kitchen and famous Italian food, especially gnocchi and scaili.

Emma had many jobs but after moving to Spokane in 1956, she most enjoyed working at Newberry’s and the Bend Restaurant.

She enjoyed playing cards, dice, Bingo and loved going to the casino.

Emma is survived by her son Alfred Ungaro.

She was sadly predeceased by her husband Nino; brothers Gus Pugliese (Norma), Paul Pugliese (Angela), Joe Pugliese (Edna); sisters Stella Martino (John), Lilly Anselmo (Mike), Jenny Porco (Albert), Lizzy Cuzzeto (Ray); as well as son Orlando Ungaro (Francis), daughters Eleanor Wallen (Ray) and Ida Heisler (Bill) as well as Alfred’s wife Linda.

A Memorial Service celebrating Emma’s life will take place at 11:00am on Wednesday, January 7th at Mary Queen Parish, 3423 E. Carlisle Avenue in Spokane, WA 99217, with a Rosary Vigil at 7:00pm on January 6th at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division in Spokane, WA.
