Obituary: Smelcer, Daniel
Age 75
He was born in Spokane on May 13, 1939 and lived his entire life in the area.
He retired as a 1st Sgt.
from the Washington National Guard after 21 years.
Dan was a true patriot, loved his country and loved the Guard.
He was a corrections Sergeant for the Spokane County Sherriff’s Department for 25 years.
He loved his job and always had great stories to tell.
He was an avid bowler and golfer once getting a hole-in-one at Wandermere Golf Course.
He worked part time for the City of Spokane as a golf marshal.
Dan loved his poker nights with his buddies and there was always more harassing than card playing.
He married the love of his life Barbara in 1993.
They worked tirelessly side by side to transform their yard into a place of wonder with the help of their dogs Sparky, Taz and Ruby who miss Daniel terribly.
He is survived by his wife Barbara; sisters Judy Smith and Virginia Summers; brothers Judd and Victor Smelcer (Gail); sons Ron Smelcer (Carol), Todd Smelcer (Lisa); daughter Danette Crandall (Jim); stepsons Vince Wayne (Shanda) and Tim Wayne; his granddaughters Jessica, Randee, Kailyn and Tayler; five great-granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 12 to 5 pm on Friday, January 9th at Hennessey’s on Division.
A Funeral Service will follow the next day at 11 am also at Hennessey’s.
Interment will take place at the Veterans Cemetery.
