Father accused of assaulting 1-year-old daughter

Police arrested a man after he allegedly assaulted his 1-year-old daughter. A concerned witness reported seeing him pick the girl up by her foot and hit her repeatedly while crossing the street, court documents say. Matthew T. Stone, 24, who also goes by Matthew Munyon, and his girlfriend, told officers they regularly used spanking and physical discipline with their daughter, according to court documents. The responding deputies observed bruises on the girl’s back, buttocks, thighs and face. Stone allegedly told officers that he remembered picking his daughter up by her foot and hitting her while crossing the street near East Francis Avenue and North Regal Street but couldn’t remember why he felt the need to hit her. His girlfriend told officers that she’s reasonable in her use of physical discipline with her daughter, but said Stone is unreasonable and hits the girl too hard. Officers arrested Stone on a charge of child assault.
