Obituary: Burden, Paul Robert

Age 82

BURDEN, Paul Robert Paul Robert Burden of Marysville, WA, beloved father, brother, grandfather and uncle passed away in Everett, WA the morning of January 1st, 2015.

Paul was born in Germantown, OH on August 7th, 1932 to parents P. Raymond and May Burden.

The only boy amongst eight siblings he was raised in Dayton, OH.

Paul joined the United States Air force in 1952 serving as an aerospace control and warning systems technician assigned to Fairchild AFB in Spokane, WA.

He would go on to complete 26 years of service in the USAF, most of these years as a recruiter with the Washington Air National Guard in Spokane.

He also worked for Kaiser Aluminum and Steel in Spokane for 18 years as a technician and earned a bachelor’s degree during this time frame.

He retired in 1992 and enjoyed living at his house on Loon Lake, WA during the spring and summer months, and snow birding at his home in Apache Junction, AZ during the winter months.

Paul settled into the Lake Stevens, WA area in 2004, residing at Ashley Point for six years where he would warm the hearts of locals by waving to passers-by from his scooter.

He became affectionately known as the “Lake Stevens Waver” to locals and was featured in several newspaper articles.

Paul moved to Marysville, WA for the last four years of his life where he met and enjoyed the company of his best friend Faye.

Paul loved to fish, play cards, swim and barbecue, but he loved his family most of all.

He is survived by his daughter Merri Lystad and her husband Rick Lystad of Ketchikan, AK; daughter Lisa Mauvais and her husband Michael Mauvais of Lake Stevens, WA; grandson Brett Lystad of Fairbanks, AK; granddaughter Jennifer Knighten and her husband Richard Knighten of Ketchikan, AK; great- grandson John Knighten of Ketchikan, AK; sisters Joyce Trout of Farmersville, Ohio and Sandy Kinser of Xenia, Ohio.

A gathering to celebrate Paul’s life will take place at the Windsor Square Retirement Community’s activity center on Sunday, January 18th, at 3 PM.
