Obituary: Tidd, Edwin B., Jr.

TIDD, Edwin B., Jr. Ed was born September 4, 1924 in Glen Ellyn Ill, to Edwin B. Tidd and Mary Newman.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in July of 1943 following graduation from Arlington High School and received three Overseas Service Bars and minor disability for action in the Rhineland and Central European theatre.

An eyesight flaw prevented him his goal to fly fighters but he would go on the earn his first set of wings in civilian aviation after the war.

He fell in love with the west during basic anti- aircraft artillery training in the desert and spent the rest of his life traveling hundreds of thousands of miles by car to visit many areas of the west.

He studied the history of the west including the people who developed it.

He traveled to the bottom of the Grand Canyon by mule, rode the narrow gauge train to Durango Colorado and constantly followed the creation of the Crazy Horse Monument in South Dakota.

He was a staunch supporter of those in the service of our country and community through regular contributions to many service organizations and daily outings with his wide range of close veteran friends and the girls at Wake Up Call and Trading Company.

A devoted member of our household for the last 36 years, Uncle Ed is survived by nephew James Thrawley, wife Judy of Otis Orchards; also grand-nephew Dan/Kami Thrawley of Greenacres; grand-nieces: Debbie/Ken Boone of Spokane Valley City, Pamela/James Stevens of Newman Lake; Laurie/Jay Hassle of Coeur D’Alene; grand-nephew Aaron Bedal of Mesa, AZ; step brother Earl Tidd of Otis Orchards and numerous great-grand-nephews and nieces.

No services are scheduled per his request but pre-arranged final interment will be scheduled at a later date at Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake.

A family and friend’s remembrance gathering will also be scheduled in the future.

The family wishes to thank Providence Family Medical Group, Providence Hospital and Hospice House of North Idaho for their wonderful care in assisting Ed to receive permanent wings for his final flight to Heaven.
