Obituary: Whiting, George William

Age 97

WHITING, George William Another WWII hero has fallen.

George William Whiting, age 97, of Spokane WA.

passed away Friday, June 26, 2015.

He was born February 7, 1918 in Lost Creek, WA.

to George M. and Olive (Berglund) Whiting.

He graduated from Rogers High School in Spokane.

He was a Special Technician for Sears until he retired in 1983.

He met his wife, Norine (Payne) prior to being drafted into the Army in 1942.

They eloped to Reno, NV.

They were married 51 years until her passing in 1994.

During the war George survived five major battles, including the invasion of Normandy Beach.

George’s interests were varied and many, including family, friends, cars, golf, fishing, bowling, cars, woodworking, camping, boating and cars.

He is survived by his son, Lynn and wife; daughter, Penny and husband; brother Jerry and wife; nephew, Greg; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

George entered a new phase of his life at age 79 when he married his best friend Jeanne in October 1997.

He leaves behind his wife, Jeanne and extended family; daughters Janey and husband; Jennifer and husband; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N. Pines Rd.
