Obituary: Riggs, Carolyn Jean

Age 66

RIGGS, Carolyn Jean November 7, 1948 - June 29, 2015 Carolyn Jean Riggs (Dauenhauer) left this world unexpectedly and accepted her place in the Kingdom of Heaven on June 29, 2015.

Carolyn was born in Colfax, Washington, on November 7, 1948, to Michael and Cora Dauenhauer.

She was the fifth of six children and graduated from University High School in Spokane, Washington, in 1967.

She married David Oslund, a staff sergeant in the Air Force, in 1967.

Son James was born in 1968, and his brother, Anthony, followed in 1970.

Carolyn balanced work and her boys’ teen years as a single parent, employed at area businesses such as Gus Johnson Ford, Excell Food Store and Wonder Bread.

She worked at Franz Bakery as a baker for 16 years before her retirement in 2010.

She married James Riggs in October 1999 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and was preceded in death by James in 2008.

Carolyn was a regular attendee at North Country Chapel in Post Falls, Idaho, and she maintained a list (updated each week) that included the names of people for whom she prayed.

Her unshakable faith in God provided the foundation of a life spent caring to the needs and concerns of others.

Carolyn was a loving mother of two, grandmother of five and great-grandmother of one.

She prioritized family above all else, and her capacity for love as the true matriarch of her family was immeasurable.

She was an avid reader, loved to cook and experiment with new recipes, and her scrapbooking and crafting skills were second to none.

She made frequent donations to the Humane Society and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Michael Dauenhauer, her mother, Cora Dauenhauer (Waddell), and a brother, Bruce Dauenhauer.

Surviving family members include sisters, Darlene (Bob) Dale and Diane Lewis and brothers, Mick Dauenhauer and Alan (Kathy) Dauenhauer.

Surviving children are James Oslund and Anthony (Marlo) Oslund, and grandchildren include: A.J.

(Grace) Oslund, Jake Oslund, Sarah (Jason) Shoot, Brandon Oslund, Steven Oslund, as well as great-grandchild Savannah Shoot.

A memorial service to celebrate Carolyn’s life will be held Tuesday, July 7, at 1:00 p.m. at North Country Chapel, located at 2281 N. Seltice Way in Post Falls, Idaho.
