Obituary: Murr, James D.

MURR, James D. James Murr was born December 18, 1938 to Bernice Groft in Denver Colorado.

Jim’s father, Fred Murr, was a dairy farmer on their 960 acre prairie ranch.

Jim graduated from Ellicott High School in 1955 with honors.

He attended briefly the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley where he met Joan Dotson who he soon married.

They had two children Jill Alta, and Jimmy.

Jill died in a car wreck at age 19.

Jim and Joan divorced after a short marriage and he married Patricia Cox of Brush Colorado.

They had two children David and Crystal.

After their divorce in 1970, Jim moved to the Spokane area, living for a while in Hayden Lake Idaho and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, then later in Spokane.

Jim had a brilliant mind and was a deep and logical thinker who would vigorously converse with anyone.

He worked as a “roughneck” in the oil fields, exercised race horses, worked in a meat packing house, and taught electricity at a community college.

He was the owner of Jim Murr Electric of Spokane for many years.

He was versatile and could fix most anything electrical or mechanical.

Even at the time of his death he continued to work.

For his friends in Spokane he was known as not being a respecter of status but treated everyone with respect.

He was known for his kindness in helping others; donating time to fix plumbing for those who could not pay.

During the past two years he attended Westgate Christian Church and actively contributed to the morning adult Sunday school class.

He was always well dressed at church and quite sociable.

He was preceded in death by his parents Fred, and Bernice Murr, daughter Jill, and two sisters; Marjorie Bradley, and Helen (Windy) Bradfield.

He is survived by Edna Mae Hunter (Elmer) of Lafayette Colorado, Fred Murr (Carol) of Falcon Colorado, June Heimsoth (John) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a son Jimmy Murr of California, a daughter Crystal Davis of Brighton Colorado, and son, David Horsfall of Aurora, Colorado.

A memorial service will be held at Westgate Christian Church, 7111 North Nine Mile Road at 11:00 AM, July 18, 2015
