Pot taxes designed as ‘revenue-neutral’

Supporters of reforms to the tax structure governing legal marijuana say a 37-percent excise tax at the point of sale will raise the same amount of money for the state as the abandoned, tiered system. A story that ran on page A1 of Saturday’s newspaper quoted a source saying less tax revenue would be collected. The new system began July 1, and taxes have not yet been collected to show if the measure is “revenue-neutral.”
