Weekend weather report
The distinct change of weather that arrived with last weekend’s rain and thunderstorms should continue through Sunday.
Today could see gusty southwest winds, keeping the risk of wildfires high.
The weather is expected to stay mostly dry with temperatures near normal to slightly below normal for the third week of July.
Highs should be in the 80s in Spokane through Saturday before a couple of warmer days in the upper 80s and lower 90s arrive for Sunday and Monday.
Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint may get into the upper 70s today before rebounding to the 80s on Friday through Sunday.
Breezy conditions are likely through most of the period with the wind direction changing as the weather pattern evolves.
A low pressure system from the Gulf of Alaska continues to send cooler air inland and weaker storm impulses that may trigger thunderstorms and showers over the northern mountains of the region.
In the North Idaho mountains near Sandpoint, highs should be in the lower and middle 60s with lows in the 40s and 50s in the upper elevations.
Sunday should see a warm up to the lower 70s at higher elevations.
The Kettle Crest mountains to the west should be several degees warmer.
The Lake Roosevelt recreation should be solidly in the 80s before the warmup brings lower 90s on Saturday and upper 90s on Sunday.
In Spokane, the average high is 83 and the average low is 56 for this point in the summer.
