Obituary: Jurgens, Ervin E.
Age 89
Ervin was born in Reardon, WA on January 28, 1926.
He attended school there until 1942 at which time he moved to Williams Valley and graduated from Deer Park High School where he met a very lovely girl, Laura Mae Wright, who he married on Valentine’s Day, 1947.
They owned and operated a farm in Williams Valley and began a family where they raised their six children.
During this time he was Master of Williams Valley Grange Hall and played league soft ball.
He and Laura started teen age square dance parties for the Grange and also started a Teen Grange Drill team, and ended up taking first place at the state competition.
Later on, they moved to Wendell, ID where they owned and operated a large dairy, along with three of their sons.
During this time, they were married in the LDS Temple in Salt Lake City.
They later moved to Jerome, ID where they owned and operated Jerome Floral for eighteen years.
During this time, he was elected President of Southern Idaho Florist Association and later on President of Idaho State Florist Association and District Director of FTD.
Also during this time he coached American Legion Baseball and he and Laura also sponsored and coached a girl’s soft ball team.
During this time they also traveled extensively throughout the United States, including Hawaii, also Canada and Europe.
In 1992, they retired and moved to Kamiah ID where they and their children built a beautiful three story log home overlooking the Clearwater River.
They lived there until 2001, at which time they moved to Boise, ID.
Ervin was an avid gardener, and he and Laura raised an abundance of vegetables that Laura canned and also provided their neighbors with fresh vegetables.
He was preceded in death by a son James, in 2013, his parents and a brother.
Ervin is survived by his wife Laura at the family home, sons Dan (Janise), Lonny (Kasey), Rocky, and daughters, Connie Port (Colin) and Debbie Port (Ron), two brothers, two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was a wonderful husband, father, Pa, grandfather, friend and neighbor, and will be missed by all.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Life Care Center of Treasure Valley for their excellent care and attention these past few months.
