Obituary: Sharp, Robert Gene “Bob”
His parents, Virgil and Genevieve Banks Sharp, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carol Vogt Sharp; his sister Diane Sharp; and a multitude of students and friends whose lives he impacted.
Bob graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1961 and from Whitworth University in 1965, where he received the Alumni Ideals Award.
He attended Purdue University and the University of Denver to earn Master’s Degrees and did doctoral work at the University of New Mexico.
He taught U.S. and Russian History at Eastfield College in Dallas, Texas for 41 years.
He was a very popular professor with the students and received outstanding teacher awards from Eastfield as well as the University of Texas.
Upon retirement he wanted to continue to pour his life into young people and began to volunteer as a mentor and encourager especially to athletes and coaches at Whitworth University, Rogers and North Central High Schools in Spokane and Rockwall and Heath High Schools in Texas.
He thrived on the relationships that he forged by his genuine interest in people.
A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, July 31st at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home, 5100 W. Wellesley.
We mourn, but the angels rejoice.
