Heat could hit 100 at Hoopfest

In Hoopfest 2012, Bill Manees, 13, of Coeur d’Alene, right, playing for Guess, battles the First Timers’ Guyle Wood, 12, top left, and Erik Torres, 11, of Coulee Dam, Wash., for a long rebound near the corner of Riverside Avenue and Monroe Street.
As if it hasn’t been hot enough already, the National Weather Service on Friday said that a change in the weather pattern could bring a new round of heat – potentially in the triple digits – by the end of next week. Highs could go from the 70s and 80s this weekend to the 90s and 100s by Friday through Monday, just in time for Hoopfest. Higher air pressure is expected to build northward next week from the desert Southwest, carrying the heat with it Forecasters said that computer weather models are indicating the hot weather is coming, but there is always uncertainty in a forecast that is a week in advance or more. Already, Spokane set a daily record high of 96 degrees on June 8. The average temperature this month is 8.1 degrees above normal. The average temperature through Friday was 68.8 degrees, a number derived by adding all of the high and low temperatures and dividing by two.
