Obituary: Voge, David Leroy

Age 95

VOGE, David Leroy June 15, 1920 - June 17, 2015 David was born on the family farm in Rosalia, WA to Ernest and Julia Voge, and passed away on June 17th, 2015 at Hospice House in Spokane, WA at the age of 95.

At age nine, he and his family moved to Post Falls, ID where he attended a one-room school thru the eighth grade and graduated from Post Falls High School in 1938.

While serving his country in the US Army and stationed at Salt Lake City, UT he married his beloved wife Betty Jean Oakland in June of 1943.

Their first child, Michael Fred, was born in August 1944, followed by the birth of daughter Karen Jean in July 1946 and Kathryn Louise in September 1949.

After they returned to Spokane, WA in 1946 he attended Whitworth College and graduated in three years with a degree in education.

During his working years, he was the office manager/accountant for Brownie Baking Company and later Jobbers Warehouse, retiring in 1984.

Following his retirement, he and Betty moved to Holman Gardens Retirement Community where he resided until his death.

During his 31 years at Holman Gardens he was a vital part of many activities, leaving his footprint throughout the entire HG community.

David was preceded in death by his parents; wife Betty in March 1998 and toddler son, Michael in February 1947.

He is survived by his sister, Marian Voge and family friend Ethelmae Walter; daughters Karen (Lee) Shrontz and Kathie (Tony) King; grandchildren David Lee (Amy) Shrontz and great- grandchildren Hannah, Abbigail and Jack; Jennifer Jeanne (Kelly) Coursey and great-grandchildren Jacob, Jordyn and Christian; Kristina Kay (Michael) Maland and great-grandchildren Lauren and Ian.

He was a long time member of Spokane Valley Baptist Church, serving in many capacities.

The family would like to express their many thanks to the Holman Gardens family and the staff of Hospice House of Spokane.

A memorial service at Spokane Valley Baptist Church is planned for July 3, 2015 at 1:00PM, officiated by Pastor Sid Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Spokane Valley Baptist Church, Holman Gardens Retirement Community or Hospice House of Spokane would be greatly appreciated.
