Northwest Christian to hold 13th benefit golf tournament

Northwest Christian Schools will host its 13th annual golf tournament on Friday. The 2015 Touchdown & Tees Golf Benefit begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at Deer Park Golf Club, 1201 N. Country Club Drive, Deer Park.

In this scramble-format tournament, every player will have a minimum of two drives and two other shots used in the 18-hole course. Mulligans are available for purchase online in advance of or on the day of the tournament.

Prizes will be given out in categories like longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin. Prizes will also be awarded to the top three foursomes and the best- and worst-dressed teams.

The $110 entry fee includes green fees, cart rental, lunch and prizes. All proceeds go to the school’s athletic fund.

LC student selected to attend summit

Gianluca Chaux, a sophomore at Lewis and Clark High School, is one of several students nominated by astronaut Buzz Aldrin, science director of the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists, to attend the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders, which will be in Boston, Sunday-Tuesday.

Chaux was selected for having a grade-point average higher than 3.5, high PSAT scores and an interest in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. Chaux is interested in aerospace engineering.

The congress hopes to motivate students interested in STEM fields to pursue those goals.

During the three-day event, students from across the country will hear from Nobel laureates and National Medal of Science winners, deans from top tech universities and fellow teen science prodigies, and will learn about advances in and the future of science and technology.
